How to apply
Admission to MHMK is granted according to the Free State of Bavaria Regulations on Qualifications for University Studies (§60 of the Bavarian University Regulations) as last amended. Under these regulations, the general school leaving certificate (Abitur) or the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulreife) is mandatory. School leaving certificates from outside Bavaria must be officially approved as being equivalent, where necessary.
Your application for enrolment must be submitted in writing, using the special application forms available from MHMK. Application forms are available on the MHMK website for downloading, or by post if requested.
At MHMK, there is no set grade level required to be admitted to each course, but the application procedure comprises three steps:
Step 1
Submit application portfolio with the following documents:
- MHMK application form with photo
- Copy of ID card/passport
- Signed CV in table form
- Certified copy of entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulreife) (can be submitted at a later date)
- If applicable, certificate from Certification Agency for the Free State of Bavaria (Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle)
- Proof of work experience or internship, where appropriate
- Other certificates – voluntary activities, professional training (Chamber)
- Certificate of deregistration if you have previously attended another university (can be submitted at a later date)
- Reference from your university if you are changing to MHMK after the second term at another university and are continuing the course
- Letter of motivation – relevant knowledge, reason for choosing the field of study, career goals, personal aptitude
- Stamped, self-addressed A4 envelope
Further requirements for the courses offered:
- Journalism: Work samples of your own choice, e.g., editorial articles, reports, stories or poems
- Film and Television: Submission of an assignment, which you will be given after the interview. Options: short film (VHS or DVD), storyboard, photo series or comparable alternative
- Media and Communication Design in the fields of Media Design or Animation: Work samples of your own choice: website, 2D or 3D applications, photo series, drawing, collages, digital designs or comparable alternative
Please send your completed and signed application form and your portfolio to the campus of your choice. Subsequently, the corresponding Student Advisory Service will invite you to take an aptitude test and interview.
For Information Sessions and Applicants’ Days please get in touch with the Student Advisory Service at your preferred campus.
If in the course of the application procedure you change your choice of MHMK campus, no further application or test is needed. Your application status for one campus is equally binding for the other locations, as the admission and assessment criteria are identical.
Step 2
Aptitude Test
Apart from general knowledge, the aptitude test examines, in particular, your creative and media skills, logical thinking and ability to express yourself. The tests can take place on Applicants’ Day or, in special cases, it is possible to arrange an individual appointment with the Student Advisory Service. It is a written test lasting 1.5 hours.
Step 3
Interview
Interviews are obligatory for admission to all courses. After submitting your application portfolio, you will receive an invitation to an interview from the Student Advisory Service. Interviews take place on the individual Applicants’ Days at the different campuses or by individual appointment.
Individual application appointment
In special cases, it is possible to arrange an individual application appointment with the Student Advisory Service in order to assess your aptitude for studying or to clarify any further questions. Orientation chats can also be arranged with the respective Student Advisory Service.
A subsequent talk with the course director is also possible. As a rule, however, we recommend the Applicants’ Days for this.
Allocation of university places
If your application is successful, we will send you a written letter of acceptance for a university place and the necessary registration form. Please return this form, completed and signed, within 14 days. You will then receive a confirmation of registration. This allows you to start your studies.
