Quality Journalism

The MHMK B.A. programme Journalism

The social function of the media remains the same whether offline or online. Journalism is about information, education, and forming public opinion. But changes in the media world have also changed the profession of the journalist. Today journalists are increasingly becoming media makers in a multi-dimensional media world. Thus the traditional tools of the journalist’s trade are no longer sufficient. Real quality journalism now has tougher prerequisites and is becoming more and more challenging – be it tabloid press or political reporting.

The Journalism programme offers you a modern and broad-based university course in journalism with a range of different areas of qualification in the two fields of arts journalism and sports journalism. At the MHMK School of Journalism we deliberately emphasize quality journalism and prepare you theoretically and practically for journalistic and editorial work in all the media: TV and radio newsrooms as well as print, online and cross-media settings. Further fields of journalistic activity are offered by production companies, journalist agencies, press agencies, the area of corporate communications, or freelance work. Often excellent professional opportunities arise in the context of your internship.

The university is not just one of many places for learning. Practical exercises, intensive exchanges of ideas with real industry professionals and authentic teaching projects are as important to us as the teaching of theoretical principles. That’s what students really appreciate about MHMK.

The director of the programme is Prof. Dr. Andreas Elter.
