The internationalization of markets, the speed of technical innovations, and the constantly changing needs of consumers all mean that design plays an increasingly important role in businesses. It is no longer confined to the niche of product design and graphic design. Big international corporations, but also innovative medium-sized companies, are incorporating design as a regular feature of their corporate procedures, a conceptual approach to the development of new pathways and structures.
In Design Management you gain the qualifications to combine design and management. Here design is not to be understood as artistic work and creation, but as a fundamental way of thinking. A free, creative, non-standardized form of thought, aiming to simplify complex issues in management and corporate leadership and to devise a clear conceptual design which will concisely communicate their essence.
Design managers are not necessarily creative designers themselves, but have a strong affinity with creative thinking and creative work. Their job is to guide and structure innovations and new perspectives in businesses. To accompany free-ranging ideas right through the corporate process chain to the market launch.
This course of study equips you with in-depth business management expertise at all levels of modern corporate management. In the second semester you begin to specialize in design management, where you will not only focus on aspects of visual design such as interface or communication design, but also engage with the theory, strategy and history of design.
Every semester you will be required to carry out study projects in which you will apply your theoretical knowledge in a setting with genuine tasks, usually with external businesses and partners as clients. Here your ideas, skills, and ability to work in a team are called for.
The 7-semester Bachelor’s programme includes a semester abroad at one of our partner universities worldwide (MHMK’s 6+1 programme) and a practical semester under the supervision of our professors.
The prerequisites for a successful design manager are curiosity, openness, and a strong interest in corporate and cultural developments.
The degree Media Management B.A./Design Management qualifies you for a professional position in strategic management. Employers are companies and agencies from design-related environments, but also large international companies from the manufacturing and service sectors.
