The field of study Digital Media Management qualifies you to become a driver of innovation and a strategic thinker in this dynamic environment. You learn how new business ideas for the marketing of information, products and services are constantly emerging throughout all areas of digital media – be it TV, radio, the Web, e-paper, out-of-home media or even cinema.
A recent study by the Bundesverband Digitale Wirtschaft (German Association for the Digital Economy), published in Die WELT on 18 July 2011, suggests that the requirements of the German Internet economy for skilled personnel will rise to 390,000 as early as 2012. This is an increase of a further 7% in just one year.
The field of study Digital Media Management is the answer to the growing need for skilled personnel. In our course you will gain a broad skills base, giving you the necessary economic and technical knowledge to understand complex relations quickly and make competent use of them. The digital media manager devises ideas and mediates between technology, design and management – always with a view to making profitable use of business management revenue models.
The course of study is based on business management, with the focus being on the latest digital technologies of mobile and social media. You will also deal extensively with digital marketing. Other important areas are trend and market research, innovation management and issues around starting a business. Whatever the subject area, we take care to present the educational content in an accessible manner, since our aim is to train managers, not nerds.
Every semester you will be required to carry out study projects in which you will apply your theoretical knowledge of e-commerce, search machine marketing, Web 2.0, and the current hot topics of e-payment, gaming and mobile media in real-life projects. External companies and partners are your clients, and you will often be dealing with specialist topics such as the online music business or dating portals (project portal). In the course of your studies you will meet top managers from the digital economy; you’ll be learning first hand from them, and making contacts in the industry right from the start.
The degree Media Management B.A. / Digital Media Management qualifies you for a professional position in strategic management. You will be in demand wherever there are digital interfaces. Employers are media companies, e-commerce trading firms and agencies. Graduates successfully begin their careers as marketing managers, product managers, communications or strategy consultants. Some also set up their own business straight away, while others decide to follow up with a Master’s degree.
