A Portrait of MHMK
The Macromedia University for Media and Communication (MHMK) was founded in 2006 as a state-approved Bavarian University of Applied Sciences and is one of Germany's leading private colleges. Its objective is to educate the media makers of tomorrow who with their well-rounded skills and personality will shape the media landscape of 2020. To that end, the university has employed 60 professors and engaged excellent scientists and experts from media companies, universities and communications agencies. 1,700 students are currently enrolled in the main campus in Munich and the other campus locations in the media hubs of Stuttgart, Cologne, Hamburg and Berlin.
Since its foundation, the university has grown in the double-digit range. A common didactic philosophy and state-of-the-art technical facilities, including a research laboratory and university radio and television studios, create a excellent and stimulating learning environment.
Delivering four full-time courses – Media Management, Digital Media Production, Film and Television, and Journalism - with fourteen additional fields of study, MHMK covers the whole spectrum of media.Furthermore, MHMK offers Master’s Degrees courses in Media and Design and Media Management and Communication Management. A research centre for applied Media Research is currently under development.
All courses have been unconditionally accredited by FIBAA or Acquin, leading to the internationally recognised degree of either Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Master of Arts (M.A.).
The teaching programme alternates between theoretical lectures and practical project work. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own educational career at an early stage. From the outset, they are given the opportunity to engage with leading media figures who are linked with MHMK as guest lecturers and project sponsors.
