What students say about us
Malina E. K., Media and Communication Management, 1st semester
"What struck me about the English programme 'Media and Communication Management' is not only that it is taught in English, but also that it includes a term abroad (…). In McLuhan’s 'global village' which we nowadays live in, everyone should be educated internationally and meet all new developments of every kind with an open mind. Additionally, I hope to be able to take a look at the media landscape from an economic perspective, because of the management modules the programme offers."
Carolin K. H., Media and Communication Management, 1st semester
"What I like about the MHMK is that this university has, unlike many others, small study groups. Consequently, I am sure that the students will benefit from personal contact with the lecturers. I believe this will lead to a positive and effective working atmosphere. Moreover, I like that the students won’t only study theoretically but get the chance to put newly acquired knowledge into practice, especially in the 6th semester. In my view, this is the best way to make people understand how this business works."
Nelson V., Film and Television / Production, 6th semester
"I liked the MHMK course straight away. We make real films and gain direct experience. Theory is always put into practice quickly. I’ve just come back from my practical semester. I spent it abroad, and built up lots of professional contacts for later on. Although you’re closely supervised by the professors, you do of course have to have initiative and commitment. That’s just part of the job in film – and it’ll certainly help me when I start my career."
Monika S., Film and Television / Directing, 3rd semester
"At MHMK we’re always well supported by the technology and the line producer. But making films also takes a lot of individual commitment. Still, you never feel as though you’ve been left alone. The line producer is always helpful if we have problems or questions."
Kristina M., Journalism / Cultural Journalism, 3rd semester
"I want educational content which is practice-oriented and usable. And I don’t want to be one of 200 students sitting in a lecture theatre. Most of all, I want more technical and personal support than I get in a state university. That’s why I chose MHMK, and it hasn’t yet disappointed me, though the course is often very demanding. I like the small classes and the friendly, encouraging atmosphere. The enthusiasm of the teachers – be they professors or research assistants – is infectious. And the technical equipment is fantastic!"
Kyrill R., Journalism / Sports Journalism, 5th semester
"Live Reporting”–a very exciting course. The highlight was a visit to a national league football match, where we were able to go into the commentator’s booth of a WDR reporter and get a taste of commentating. As well as theoretical principles, the course gives training in public speaking and speaking in front of the microphone."
Christian W., Journalism / Cultural Journalism, 4th semester
"We do practice-oriented projects and get to know lecturers from the media industry. That’s the best preparation for professional life. I especially like the fact that you’re not one of many, but get individual encouragement. And the direct contact with professionals."
Benno D., Media and Communication Design / Computer Animation, 4th semester
"I’d like to be part of the Pixar family and make animated films. Here I’m given the tools I need. And also the direct, personal support of the professors. My professor is keen on open software, so I created an old- school car race using only freeware. Another real plus is the proximity to film and television. I’ve often been present at post-production, I’ve made rain or fire, and most recently I even made my very first monster."
Sandra J., Media and Communication Design / Media Design, 6th semester
"Heading towards media was definitely the right thing for me. I like drawing, but as a freelance artist? I’m now specializing in concept art, storyboarding and 3D visualization. My professors are always approachable and help me to develop my main focus. Presenting and public speaking was never my thing, but after the relevant training I feel much more confident and have a few tricks to combat stage fright. I really appreciated that!"
Sina S., Media and Communication Design / Media Design, 2nd semester
"The projects are challenging and really extend you. One thing I especially find is that the professors and lecturers are there for me. I study interesting, practice-related subjects, in which you learn things which are valuable in life as well as in your career. And since I got involved in the MHMK campus radio station, macrophon, I’ve found an exciting new hobby."
Lisa O., Media Management / PR and Communication Management, 5th semester
"I study at MHMK because of the small study groups. You know almost everyone. And you have personal contact with the professors, and with fellow students from other subjects. You’re allowed to be creative, too, and with all those projects, there’s always something happening. In the teaching project I was able to explore my strengths and weaknesses and grow with the task. The MHMK is special because it’s so career-focused."
Tobias A., Media Management / Brand Communication and Advertising, 3rd semester
"To start off with, the tasks in the project for the Global Citizen Foundation seemed almost insoluble. But the regular feedback from our lecturers and the collaborative partners made it easier for us to find the right path. I was able to meet interesting people and got the opportunity to collaborate on the web page even after the end of the study project."
Jennifer W., Media management / Music Management, 4thsemester
"We’re all passionate about music. Music making isn’t the main focus of the courses, but music fans will find that this music management course caters to them and their love of music."
Daniel S., graduate in Media Management / PR and Communication Management
"MHMK, combined with high-quality internships, was exactly the right choice. In the course I learnt how to systematize communications tasks, and in PR and marketing I have an excellent stock of tools of the trade. In the application process I was able to get extra kudos because I had gained lots of experience in presentation over the semesters. So I was able to do better than several master’s graduates even though I only had a bachelor’s degree."
Veronika S., Media Management / Sports and Event Management, 5th Semester
"I like being a student at MHMK. We’re always being encouraged to get involved, and we work intensively, in small groups, on current, practice-oriented topics. We’re constantly exchanging ideas with the lecturers. In the teaching project we carried out a complex eye tracking study, examining the eye movements of test subjects. It was a lot of work, but we were a great team and it was worth the effort!"
