This is academic life as well: From June 7-10 Macromedia University will participate in the “World Elite University Dragon Boat Regatta” in Donghai, China. Thirteen Macromedia Students from four campuses form a mixed rowing team that is going to compete against varsity teams from all over the world. Initiator, organizer and coach is Prof. Dr. Andreas Hebbel-Seeger from Campus Hamburg, where the students entered into a three-day training camp on June 2, 2019.
“And pull. And pull. And pull.” Encouraged by team coach Prof. Dr. Andreas Hebbel-Seeger 13 Macromedia students work hard during their first training session on the Hamburg canals. Their aim is to form a great, well-coordinated dragon boat team in just three days. Their challenge: hardly anybody knows each other, despite having rowed together. Independently of each other each of the 7 female and 6 male students followed Andreas Hebbel-Seeger call for volunteers.
Being a former rowing champion himself, Prof. Dr. Andreas Hebbel-Seeger still keeps close ties to the International varsity rowing scene. Thereby he was invited to nominate a German team for a short termed international regatta on the Chinese Xishuanghu Lake.
Beyond the races: Intercultural experience and exchange
Competition for the Macromedia Dragon Boat will be tough. Most of the other teams are training together on a long term basis. Many have racing experience in this traditional Chinese boat class. However, the sporting competition is just one aspect of the regatta. Equally important is the intercultural exchange with the Chinese Hosts as well as with the students from the other universities. Experiencing that, everybody is going to benefit.
Live on Social Media: Macromedia goes China
We will accompany our team on Instagram, Facebook and here on the website and say: wishing you a great trip, good luck to all, and many thanks to Prof. Dr. Andreas Hebbel-Seeger for making this possible.
