Background of Cornelia Mothes

She loves to teach and to work with her students on ideas for the world of tomorrow.

Before she joined Macromedia University, Cornelia worked as a postdoc at Technische Universität Dresden and as a visiting professor at Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. Her main research interests lie in the field of journalism, political communication, and media psychology, with a focus on developing and testing strategies to increase news interest, social coherence, and political tolerance in digital democracies. Her dissertation (2012, funded by the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes) dealt with the question of how journalists and citizens differ in making news decisions in high-choice digital media environments. In 2015, she received a DAAD postdoc fellowship to study reasons of journalistic news exposure and avoidance at the School of Communication at The Ohio State University.

Cornelia is a member of the international project “Journalistic Role Performance” (, serves as WAPOR’s national representative for Germany (, and is part of the editorial team of the open access scientific journal “Media and Communication” (

Her work has been published in international journals such as Communication Theory, Communication Research, International Journal of Press/Politics, and Journal of Communication.

In her spare time she loves to make music and to go on tour with her band. She has a little daughter and a loving husband with whom she shares her passion for music.
