Michael Baur


Prof. Michael Baur is the head of the Game Design & Development programme at the Leipzig campus, where he teaches courses such as Game Design I and II as well as Game Analysis.

Background of Michael Baur

In 2001, Prof. Baur obtained a degree in media informatics form the University of Applied Sciences in Furtwangen, Black Forest. He then worked for 16 years in the German games industry in companies such as Electronic Arts, Phenomic, and Ubisoft as a senior/lead game and level designer. His most prestigious games include: the SpellForce series, BattleForge, Lord of Ultima, Sacred III, Heroes of Might & Magic Online and The Settlers Online.

During this time, Prof. Baur worked as a part-time lecturer in game design at the Games Academy in Berlin and Frankfurt for seven years. He gained his first experience as a university lecturer in the winter semester of 2009/2010 at the University of Applied Sciences in Darmstadt. Further positions include the Games Academy University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, the Designhochschule in Schwerin, and finally the Vitruvius University of Applied Sciences in Leipzig. In Leipzig, Prof. Baur was head of studies in the game design programme.

Since 2019 he is working for the Macromedia University of Applied Science at the Leipzig campus, where he took a leading role in the development of the new „Game Design & Development“ bachelor. Moreover, he is among the founding board of directors of the Games & XR Mitteldeutschland e.V. foundation.
