Mercedes-Benz Vans: Smart Urban Mobility

Description

Future scenarios for the mobility of crafts in car-free cities are still rare. This segment, so present in cityscapes, seems to be in its infancy, it is about innovative solutions for coping with environmental and mobility problems. In most cases, approaches come from ICT providers, automobile manufacturers, municipal administrations, management consultants or research institutes.

Car-free inner cities: How can the mobility of craft businesses be maintained?

This is where the practical project between the Macromedia University of Applied Sciences and Mercedes-Benz Vans began at the Berlin campus. What does the trade itself say? What do craftsmen hope for from digitization? Which technology concepts are their representatives open to? Against this background, it was the task of the Macromedia students to develop mobility concepts for crafts in car-free inner cities.

Interdisciplinary team: Students from management, media management and design management cooperate

In 14 teams, students from four bachelor’s and master’s degree programs worked in design thinking processes to develop new mobility concepts for Mercedes-Benz Vans from exploration to definition, ideation, prototyping and testing.

Pitch presentation: Practice partner awards prizes to student teams

The students pitched in front of Armin Scheu and his team as well as the professors. The Smart City Design Team “Citainer” received the best Use Case and the Audience Award. The Swedish team “Bram” was awarded as best presentation. The industry partner was enthusiastic and thanked the students with certificates and career options.

Statement Practice Partner

“The students can be very proud of their achievements. I am deeply impressed by how much they have been involved with our company, the needs of craftsmen and local residents,” commented Armin Scheu. “It has been confirmed that we will have to deal even more intensively with the green aspects of developing solutions in the future, because this will significantly increase our willingness to adapt”.
