Already in the following year, he was given the nationwide leadership of this Macromedia study program, which is still its most successful one today.

With his appointment as Vice President for Research and Teaching, Kolo assumed academic responsibility for all study programs and faculties of Macromedia University in 2013. He is responsible for the modular, efficient and quality-oriented architecture of the Macromedia study programs as well as the consistent orientation of teaching towards the opportunities of the digital transformation.

Before his appointment to the Macromedia University of Applied Sciences, Castulus Kolo gained several years of consulting experience at an international strategy consultancy and at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) before he became a member of the management board of a consulting subsidiary of the Fraunhofer Society in 2000.

In 2001 Castulus Kolo moved to the management of the holding company of Süddeutscher Verlag for activities in the field of new media. As Head of Business Development, he was responsible for investments and the development of new business fields and innovations at the print-online interface.

Since 2004 Castulus Kolo has been working as an independent management consultant. He has extensive international project experience in the areas of (new) media, telecommunications, technology and innovation.

Castulus Kolo studied physics at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich, where he completed his doctorate in experimental particle physics in 1995. During his work as a research associate at the European Nuclear Research Centre CERN in Geneva (1991 to 1997), he also successfully completed his doctorate in a cultural anthropological topic on Dr. phil.

As a young scientist at CERN, Castulus Kolo was a digital pioneer from the first hours of the Word Wide Web. Following on from his scientific-technical and social science background, he has since been working on the prerequisites, diffusion and effects of (media) innovations at the interface of economy, society and technology. A current focus is on the transformation of traditional media companies and the challenges posed by digital start-ups.
